Computers and Lasik Eye Surgery

December 3, 2008

Lasik Eye Surgery has been effective for quite some time now, but is constantly  becoming even more precise due to increased computer technology.  The software used to aid in eye surgery  can easily calculate the clients cornea and in turn adjusts to that patients eye.  It can even correct vision abnormalities beyond astigmatism, farsightedness, and nearsightedness.  Before the new software developed by the University of Rochester Norogram, 20% of patients were still a bit farsighted, but with the new software, that statistic drops to 2 %!

A pro about this new software is that the patients do not need to come back in the future for further work.  A con about lasik is that some people are not good candidates for this surgery because of things such as rheumatoid arthritis, keratoconus, or active herpes.

This is a huge step for technology to be able to help people not have  to wear glasses or contacts.

DO you think that lasik is a valid and safe way to help with eye sight and other abnormalities?
